Webb Garwood (Van Helfin), es un oportunista policía nocturno al cual se le presenta la oportunidad de su vida la noche en que conoce a Susan (Evelyn Keyes), una solitaria y triste joven casada con un famoso locutor de radio que trabaja todas las noches (Sherry Hall) mucho mayor que ella. Así comennzará con Webb una historia de amor que desarrollará por las noches cuando su marido se encuentra trabajando. Webb acabará maquinando un complicado plan para conseguir el sueño  de su vida, ser el propietario de un fructífero motel en Las Vegas, pero todo acabara viniéndose abajo cuando descubren que ella se encuentra embarazada.

Nos encontramos con una película magistral en su género que no pasa inadvertida para el espectador. La más que inquietante figura del merodeador que ronda, que nos vigila, que nos mira, que nos acecha se queda grabada en nuestra retina. El merodeador, a pesar del paso del tiempo, sigue siendo arrebatadora, nos narra una historia tan real como la vida misma y acabá envolviéndonos a través de increíbles escenas y una cuidad fotografía. Una recomendación que no pueden perderse.
